The 3:30 p.m. "Hour of Code" course is a self-guided introduction to computer science, and it is designed to demystify code in an easy, visual and fun format that is also comfortable and friendly for all ages.
"Even President Obama was involved in the hour of code last year, and it is everywhere,” said Rita Browning, the library director.
Last year, about eight patrons learned code through a more complicated program. The library this year is choosing a simpler solution that includes at least six familiar mazes and themes, Browning said.
“It’s very visual with animated objects,” she said. "People will be moving the figures up and down, and the website will tell you what you need to do next.”
All participants will receive a certificate of completion as well as a coupon for a free book from the lobby or they will get to make an item with the button maker.
Anyone who is interested in learning code is invited to bring a laptop to work on projects via www.code.org.
